Volunteering with Loaves and Fishes of Contra Costa

Loaves and Fishes is a 501C3 nonprofit founded in 1983. The mission of Loaves and Fishes of Contra Costa is to provide community based food programs and partner services that focus on basic needs.

We are the largest provider of hot meals to the hungry in Contra Costa County, serving over 136,000 hot meals this fiscal year in five dining rooms.

Our dedicated dining room service volunteers help serve over 11,000 meals per month, every Monday to Friday in five dining rooms. We could not serve the hot lunch meal without our volunteer teams! It’s a fun & rewarding experience

We also use volunteers in our central kitchen where 650 to 700 meals are prepared by our Head Chef every day. The central kitchen volunteers help the Head Chef prepare ingredients for the meal. If you like to chop & chat this is a fun opportunity.

The minimum age to serve in the dining room with adult is age 12. Volunteers must be able to stand 3-4 hours and lift up to 25 pounds
