We’re Ready to Help – 5.5 Million Californians Facing Delayed Food Benefits

Dear Friends,
If the federal government is not funded by October 23, 2025, November CalFresh (SNAP) benefits for approximately 5.5 million Californians including thousands right here in Contra Costa County will be delayed.

Local organizations like Loaves and Fishes of Contra Costa (LFCC) are preparing for an influx of individuals and families seeking alternative food sources as federal workers, seniors, and low-income households face uncertainty about where their next meal will come from.

At LFCC, we are ready to serve. Our five dining rooms and mobile meal service remain open, providing hot, nutritious meals and groceries to anyone in need.

Ways you can help your community:

  1. If you know furloughed federal workers or anyone struggling to afford food, please connect them with local resources for immediate help:
  2. Spread the word. Share this message with friends, neighbors, and coworkers — awareness helps us reach those who might otherwise go hungry.

  3. Support the response. As we prepare for longer lines and increased demand, your support helps us sustain our operations.
Make a monetary donation to help us purchase fresh food and cover daily meal costs.
  4. Donate nonperishable items such as canned goods, rice, pasta, and shelf-stable proteins to keep our food pantries stocked.
Donate or learn how to give
  5. Raise your voice. Contact your congressional representatives and urge them to act quickly to end the shutdown and restore CalFresh benefits. Your voice can make a difference for millions of families who depend on this vital program. Find your representatives

Together, we can ensure no one in Contra Costa goes hungry due to circumstances beyond their control.

With gratitude,
Loaves and Fishes of Contra Costa
